As we go in to the new year I would like to clarify who exactly the HDCF is. It is a completely independent registered charity run for the benefit of families in the Halesworth area who have someone suffering from dementia. We are not part of Dementia U.K. We are also completely separate from the Pear Tree Centre, Halesworth Volunteer Centre and the Alzheimers Society, though we do work very closely with them and the local care agencies.
Unlike the above organisations, we do not have any paid administrators. HDCF is run by a board of 12 Trustees who are all volunteers, and none of whom receives any payment or remuneration. This means that every penny we raise is used to support our charitable work. As a registered charity we hold an AGM every year which is open to the public, and gives people the opportunity to receive a financial report and meet the Trustees.
We run a series of activities every week, and full details are on our website. We are able to offer a full day of respite care every Friday at the Patrick Stead Day Centre, where people suffering from dementia are looked after by our fully-trained staff. Spaces are limited so it is very important to contact us regarding this provision. We are also able to offer advice regarding what sort of services are available, though we do not offer specific medical advice.
