Our History - Providing support for over 10 years

Overview of the decade

From a very small beginning in 2012, hoping to help a few families cope with respite care for their loved one with dementia to a very valuable asset to the Halesworth Community and the Town.

Dementia Support Project.

Two people with a common idea to help those in need of respite, expanding to bring together three organisations with their own expert advices.

HDF Committee formed. From the initial 5 members, fluctuating over the decade and now standing at 10 trustees covering a range of roles within the fund.

Friends of HDF, ‘The Trumpet’ and the 100+ Club.

Initially to get people together to financially support the fund by annual donations. With an in-house newspaper to impart information and a 100+Club to raise funds via a monthly draw giving cash prizes.

Respite Care Service

The Respite Care Service started in April 2014 and during this decade has provided a staggering 19,200 hours of care at a cost of £325,000, to over 135 people with dementia and their families.

All this has been raised by volunteers through Grants, Fund Raising and Donations.

Fund Raising & Events

All throughout the decade there have been funds raised either by the committee or by members of the public putting on events to donate to the fund. We are grateful for all the support we have recieved from generous grants and donations provided by Heveningham Hall Country Fair Trust, Suffolk Community Foundation, East Suffolk Council, Halesworth  Town Council and many more.

The Elephant that evolved

Several iterations of the logo from the original light blue elephant, designed by pupils at Bungay High School,  to one with fund name added. As time progressed the elephant logo morphed into a darker blue with its toes bright white which meant it stood out more and could be used on promotional merchandise
